The M18 Hellcat is a South Korean vehicle that apperars in Wargame: Red Dragon.
History[]
An American tank destroyer first developed in the early 1940's, the 76mm Gun Motor Carriage M18, nicknamed the "Hellcat", saw action in Western Europe during WWII (1939-1945). Thanks to its light weight and a powerful radial engine designed for aircraft usage, the M18 was the fastest tracked vehicle in American service, a record which it held until the development of the M1 Abrams several decades later. This speed, combined with a high-velocity 76mm gun, made the Hellcat not only the most effective tank destroyer in American service, but also one of the most effective armored vehicles period, with a higher kill-loss ratio than any other armored vehicle in American use during the war.
After the Second World War, the M18 Hellcat saw service during the Korean War (1950-1953). Although it is said that South Korea formed its earliest armor division based on the U.S. M18 GMC in 1946, when the war broke out, the South Korean army had no tanks in fact and only 37 M8 Greyhounds. When the United States responded and began supplying equipments to South Korea, the majority was actually M36.
Overview[]
Due to the fact that South Korea can also deploy M36 Jackson, Hellcat has little competitiveness by comparison: Its main gun has a range of 1575m that is comparable to many autocannons, while the AP/HE Power and suppression are all very low. More importantly, the 0 Top armor makes it very vulnerable to even lightest artillery fire. Overall, this is a completely unnecessary unit to consider.
