The MD 500D AGS-17 is a North Korea Gunship Helicopter that appears in Wargame: Red Dragon.

History[]

In 1983-1985, North Korea had managed to circumvent a US export barrier by purchasing 87 MD 500s (102 in some sources) from a West German firm. After the US learned about the illegal action by the North Koreans, they moved to stop the West German firm from delivering more. It is reported that 60 MD 500s (87 in some sources) were smuggled into North Korea. Among the 87 helicopters, 20 are D-model, 66 are E-model, and 1 is C-model.

Because South Korea also manufactured MD 500s locally (OH-6), the modified North Korean helicopters could be used in infiltration, like in incursions past the DMZ. These MD 500s were finally revealed to the world on the parade of July 27th, 2013.

This one is mounted with twin AGS-17 grenade launchers.

Overview[]

The 4-Strength helicopters can be easily killed by even MANPADs. The 1750m Range of AGS-17 is only slightly higher than the autoconnons of NATO IFVs, and undoubtedly lower than that of Stinger. The grenade launcher itself can only be used for anti-infantry, so this unit has limited combat opportunities and requires micromanagement.

Mi-25 would be a more efficient and functional choice.
