The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17PF (NATO reporting name FRESCO-D) is a single-engine, single-seat, subsonic fighter developed for the Soviet Air Force. First flown in 1954, the PF is an upgraded variant of the MiG-17F, which features a new engine and radar. The type saw extensive use in the Vietnam War.
Overview[]
AirLand Battle[]
The MiG-17PF is an inexpensive bomber available to East German and PACT decks. It carries two types of cannon and four 250kg bombs. Although relatively slow and without ECM, the type's low cost make it an easily fieldable bomber, and it is especially dangerous to lightly armored vehicles and infantry.
Red Dragon[]
The MiG-17PF in Wargame: Red Dragon has seen a reduction in guns to a single NR-23, but an increase in bomb power, swapping the four FAB 250s with a pair of 500kg FAB 500's. The FAB 500 has more hitting power than the 250, and can damage or destroy medium armored vehicles. The major drawback of the MiG-17PF are its lack of ECM and missiles, leaving it vulnerable to both aircraft and IADS, though at 55 points per aircraft, this is not a significant set back.
