History[]
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21M (NATO Reporting Name: FISHBED-J) is a modernized export variant of the MiG-21S. It is a single-engine, single-seat, supersonic fighter. The MiG-21M features an RP-21MA radar (less capable than that of the MiG-21S), and a built-in GSh-23 cannon, rather than a cannon pod.
89 MiG-21M served in the Luftstreitkräfte der Nationalen Volksarmee.
Overview[]
AirLand Battle[]
The MiG-21M is a light strike platform which carries a pair of RBK-500 anti-tank cluster bombs and an internal GSh-23 cannon with 200 rounds. It carries no ECM or air-to-air missile armament, but at 55 points per aircraft, this is not a significant drawback. The type is good for attacking armored columns, but is vulnerable to both enemy IADS and fighter aircraft.
Red Dragon[]
The MiG-21M in Wargame: Red Dragon has seen the addition of very poor ECM, and has transitioned from anti-tank duties to area denial with the carriage of two ZB500 500kg napalm bombs. The aircraft is now 70 points to field, but this is still relatively inexpensive.
