The US Marines is a infantry unit that introduced in Wargame: AirLand Battle, and became a Shock Infantry with updated equipments in Wargame: Red Dragon.

History[]

The United States Marine Corps (U.S.M.C.) wa first formed in 1775 as the Continental Marines, a branch of the Department of the Navy. The Marine Corps has since grown and evolved into a major fighting force, gaining prominence for its theories and practices of amphibious warfare in the 20th century. The Marine Corps has been involved in most of America's wars throughout history.

During the 1980s, Colt decided to expand on the basic ideas that had been exposed in the "Interim SAW" that WAK Inc. worked on at the behest of the USMC. The Colt Model 750 was an improvement of the basic principle of the Colt LMG, developed jointly by Colt and Diemaco with an eye toward the Canadian Army (though they would eventually select the FN Minimi). The US Marines did not adopt Colt LMG IRL, and the year (1975) did not match, either. Instead, the three fire teams' automatic riflemen in the Marine Infantry squad used an ordinary M16 equipped with a bipod and fired in full auto.

Overview[]

AirLand Battle[]

The US Marines are a general-purpose infantry which specializes in amphibious assaults. In the game they are only available for Marine type decks (besides unspecialized), while they wield similar weapons to their Riflemen cousins. Like all 15-men squad, they are cost-inefficient, especially since they are armed with one of the worst MG in-game: The M60. Their LAW has a AP below 16 which means it will take two hit to disable anything with more than 2 armor. They are usually taken for the transport, LVTP-7A1, but in that case SMAW is a better choice for their lower price and better LAW.

Red Dragon[]

While upgrading to a Shock Infantry, and Colt LMG should be better than M60, due to the corresponding price rise to 25 points, the cost-effective of US Marines is still very low. Plus the LAV-25 was taken away and moved to fire support vehicles.

Anyway, this situation can be alleviated (from very low to low) by choosing the new '90 variant with 5 more points as the latter got AT4 and Minimi, the available transports will be same.
