The Wachregiment (German: Guards Regiment) is an East German Shock Infantry unit that first appeared in The Millionth Mile DLC of Wargame: Red Dragon.

History[]

The "Guards" of Wachregiment stands for "Security", not really honorary titles like Soviet units.

The Wachregiment, formly Wachregiment Berlin des Ministeriums für Staatssicherheit Feliks Dzierzynski, also known as Felix Dzerzhinsky Guards Regiment, was an elite motorized rifle regiment under the command of the Ministry for State Security, infamously known as the StaSi, of the DDR.

The Dzerzhinsky Regiment is the only one among the three Guard Regiments to undertake combat tasks. In addition to defending East Berlin and senior political figures in East Germany, they will also participate in attacks on West Berlin when needed.[1]

This Wachregiment has three combat groups with six motorized rifle battalions and three training battalions, Artillery Battalion and a Engineer Battalion along with support units. Its staffing reached 11426 in 1989. The Shock Infantry Wachregiment here in Wargame should be its airborne company.[2]

Overview and tactics[]

Due to the fact that all DDR infantry have Shock-level Training, a squad of 15 equipped with SMGs seems less necessary. However, it should be pointed out that from Mot.-Schützen to LStR-40, the LAWs of these other infantries only have an RPM of 10. Therefore, although also engaged in frontline operations, the role of Wachregiment is in a sense "auxiliary", such as finishing cheap infantry or damaged tanks for LStR-40.

Because Wachregiment itself does not stand out, it is rarely seen in multiplayer.
